Warner Bros. Pictures introduced at this time that Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle -- aka Catwoman -- in Christopher Nolan's subsequent Batman franchise installment The Darkish Knight Rises, reports USA TODAY's Scott Bowles.
(Rumors had included Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Naomi Watts and Katie Holmes for the role.)
Selina Kyle made her first appearance within the Batman collection in 1940 in Batman 1. She performs both a villain and ally to Batman, typically a love interest. Michelle Pfeiffer put on the catsuit for the role in 1992's Batman Returns.
The studio also introduced that Tom Hardy will play the villain Bane. They'll star reverse Christian Bale, who returns as Bruce Wayne.
In a launch, Nolan says he's "thrilled to have the chance to work with Anne Hathaway, who might be a incredible addition to our ensemble as we complete our story." The film will be out July 20, 2012.
